Frugal Friday: Homemade Liquid Fabric Softener

Before couponing, I actually never used fabric softener GASP! It was one of the things we went without growing up unless my mom got a REALLY good deal on it and I guess I didn't realize what I was missing. OMG I LOVE FABRIC SOFTENER!! LOL Unfortunately the supply can run low between deals and I found this awesome recipe for homemade fabric softener from The Grocery Cart Challenge. Here's what you'll need:

1 cup baking soda
6 cups distilled white vinegar
8 cups water
10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil scent (she suggests lavendar, lime, or orange)

You can read the whole directions HERE, but you basically put the baking soda in a one gallon container and slowly add the vinegar (think 2nd grade volcano project hehe) and then add the rest. Use 1/2 cup to a load of laundry. Simple and super cheap!

Ok when Huggies went on sale 2 weeks ago, I had read about this new + Up reward but that it was only in very select areas. Of course it wasn't until FRIDAY NIGHT of that week that I also read it seemed to be "Rite Aid test areas". Saturday morning I jumped in the car and sure enough, these wonderful yellow signs were up in all of the Lancaster County Rite Aid's I visited. Please note: the following deal is NOT available in Berks County (I looked) and I can only personally confirm that it is valid in Lancaster County stores, having done it myself.

If you can't read the blurry picture of the sign, here's what it says:
Buy any 3 Huggies items, get a $11.99 + Up Reward

I can tell you, this is almost exactly the same as CVS Extra Care Bucks. You can use the same $11.99 to then buy 3 more Huggies and you'll get another one, and so on. This deal is good through 6/12, which is great because starting this Sunday 5/30 Huggies will be on sale for $8.99, there is an additional $2 SCR (limit 1), you can earn a voucher for a free pack of Huggies when you buy 5, AND Rite Aid has released $1/1 Huggies Jumbo Packs AdPerk coupons. It couldn't get any better!! Here's the scenario:

I would totally be hitting up the baby food catalina, but Silas is definitely out of the baby food stage now. I want to check the shelf prices for the Gerber snacks as I have quite a few Gerber coupons (by mail) to go with the catalina. The only other thing I'll pick up at Weis is a pack of frozen burgers with the $3 Beef/Chicken Old El Paso catalina from last, and any other miscellaneous things we need because of the other leftover catalinas I have.

Here is yet another way to save some money and give to charity. Gap's Give And Get program will run from March 18 - March 21. You have to sign up on their website (link is above) and you'll receive an email for 30% off your purchase at Gap, Banana Republic, or Old Navy. It clearly states in the email that the coupon may be used at Gap and Banana Republic Factory Outlet stores and that it is good for multiple uses -- score! The best part is that when you redeem the coupon, 5% of your purchase will go to the charity that you chose on the site during registration. You can pick from 5 different charities and also send coupons to friends. Great job, Gap!

Walmart - FREE Old Spice Red Zone Body Wash

Old Spice Red Zone body wash is apparently priced at $.97 for the 1.7 oz bottle at Walmart. Use the $3/2 coupon in 2-21 P&G insert and it's free! If you have trouble finding it, look in the trial/travel size aisle. The coupon specifies 1.7 oz or larger, so it is definitely intended for this item. Now because the coupon amount is more than the price of the items, your cashier will have to adjust the amount of the coupon down--which is Walmart's policy.

If you are a lucky duck, you might be allowed to get overage on this item! Either way, these make for awesome stocking stuffers!

Tanger Outlets 20% off Coupon

In today's paper, there is a Tanger Outlets flyer with four 20% off any single item coupons. They expire 4/30/10 and are good at Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Gap Outlet, J. Crew, Le Gourmet Chef, Nine West, and Yankee Candle to name just a few. The coupons do state "limit one coupon per customer per store per day." What I do is cut these out and put them in my "Mall Stores" envelope in my purse. That way whenever I happen to visit the outlets I don't have to go digging in my bag for them. Or worse yet, loose them altogether!
